My Music Magazine Genre

The genre my music magazine will be focussing on is Grime music. I've chosen this genre because this is the type of music I like to listen to in my spare time. Grime was founded in the Uk, East London in the early 2000's. Grime is a collaboration of the genres Uk garage, rap, bass and dancehall. The most well know artists of Grime back in the day are Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Skepta, and Wiley. The most well know Grime crews back in the day are Ruff Squad, Boy Better Know, Roll Deep. Up and coming Grime artist/ crews consist of Stormzy, Section Boyz, Chip and Krept & Konan. Grime music is starting to get noticed by a lot of people and is growing in the amount of people in the grime industry participating. For many years Grime was mostly based in the Uk only but has now is acknowledge by people all around the world listening and joining in. Artist like Skepta for example has songs featuring american artists. Grime is a genre majorly dominated by young males in London, with only a number of females involved in this genre like  Lady Leshurr and Paigey Cakey.

Induction - Music Article Evaluation

The music article I created is based on Grime music. Grime is music genre founder in the Uk. My music article is also based on the digital magazine RWD, which focusses on young rap/grime artists. Gathering research for this genre did not take too long to find, as I’m already familiar and really passionate about Grime music anyway, so I already knew a bit about the industry. The 5 songs I mentioned in my music article was ‘Do It for The Gang’ by Krept & Konan, ‘Uno My Style’ by Big Tobz, ‘New Wavin’ by Baseman & Shocktown, ‘Shut up’ by Stormzy and ‘This Is England’ by Kano - who are all British Grime artists.
The skills I learnt through InDesign were very useful but as It was my first time using the software, took me a while to get the hang of its features.
The skills I learnt through InDesign is how to do a drop cap for the beginning letter of the first word in an article — which is an effective way to start an article as it makes the who article and the first word stand out.
I learnt how to edit pictures into my article by dragging the mouse when tapping a square button with a cross through it, onto the area I want the image to be placed.
I learnt to create a double page spread layout by splitting the page in half by creating a line in the exact middle of the page — the line is not visible when the article is then printed out. This is useful as a guide line for placing images and text.
I learnt how to create columns as a template for the text to be displayed, to make my article more professional and neat.
What I would like to improve on when I create my own article again using InDesign is, the uses of colours for the background. I struggled with deciding what colours to uses for the background of my article that will compliment and go well with my article. I experimented with a lot of colours for my article, but then stuck to a black background with white coloured font for the text.
I hope to also improve in the structure of the text and images in my article, as I had trouble with arranging pictures into my article and then where to place the text.

Introduction Blog

Hi, my name is Lauryn Nicole Reid.
Welcome to my AS Media Studies Blog. :)

At my Secondary School, I really enjoyed when in I.C.T we got to use Photoshop but we only used that software for a little bit. I'm looking forward in Media Studies when we are editing and creating our own magazine as I enjoy taking pictures, editing images and displaying my work in different layouts. Also, I going to find the interview part of a magazine enjoyable as when I do read magazines I find the interview about an artist is very interesting. I'm really looking forward to that part as I think that it's going to be fun making up my own artist. Hopefully I'm going to be proud of my magazine that I create and hope that it looks believable as a real magazine you'll see in shops.

Throughout this blog, you will see the progress of my music magazine.
